The stables

At the mention of Nick, Darien's temporary good humour vanished.
"Stupid flying pony and it's boy..." He muttered under his breath, so the Headmistress couldn't hear.
He summoned the carrots and waved one under Obsidion's nose.
"Here. Non-processed carrot."

Obsidion took the carrot without complaint, but he sence the change in the boys mood at the mention of the other horse.

And he kicked the grass again and nodded his large head in agreement. He couldn't the suger high puppy like horse either.

Darien flinched backwards slightly.
Okay...the unicorn had just nodded at something he'd said...
He wasn't sure which was weirder, the fact it understood him, or the fact it agreed with him.
He rooted around in the bag and selected another carrot which he offered to the unicorn.
It was then that his brain processed what the Headmistress had said.
"Riding him?!"
Darien dropped the bag and the outstretched carrot.

Kiara nodded, "Only when you are both ready anyway, you seem to be able understad each other which is a good thing, Unicorns are very smart creatures, Obsidion in particuar is very smart, he chooses his own rider"

"Well good for him. When's this rider going to turn up then? They can clean up after him instead."

"You misunderstand me Mr. Vaight this is the closest any one has gotten to Obsidion or has been able to feed him. Not even I can get close to him, you show much promise in being able to ride him" Kiara explained.

Darien ignored the carrots on the floor and turned around slowly.
"But...why me? I don't even-I'm not- Why?!"

Kiara shock her head with a smile on her face.

"I don't know Mr. Vaight why don't ask him" feeling the boy look as if she was crazy she explained further.

"Touch his horn Mr. Vaight if I am right you will see what I mean"

"Okay..."
Darien stretched out a hand and his fingers touched the horn.

"Aww so do have some sense" came a deep royal voice of Obsidion as he looked up.

Darien yelped and jerked his hand away, stepped backwards and tripped over the bag of carrots.
He fell, sprawling into the mud on his back.
Swearing, he stood up and cleaned his robes with a wave of his wand.

Kiara smiled, she had been right.

"Alright there Mr. Vaight?" she asked amused.

Darien scowled. "It spoke...with it's horn...what the-"

Kiara smiled "Good"

Obsidion was looking at the boy with amusment in his eyes.

Laughing Kiara explained "It means you are compadible to be his rider after a bit of getting used to eachother. If you want to leave now you may we have made great progress today"

Darien ran straight back towards the Headmistress, realising two things.
One he was running too fast to stop without falling over.
Two, he wouldn't be able to leap the fence.

He growled and changed form, leaping deftly over the fence and landing on four paws, nodded to the Headmistress and hurtled away before she had time to reprimand him.

Darien slunk into the stables again, and stood warily near the fence. He glanced at Obsidien out of the corner of his eye and glanced around for the Headmistress.
"Headmistress?"

Kiara poked her head out "Oh hello be right there" she said as she throw a bag of meat in to the thestrals stables.

"Today should be relativity easy, just take him of for a run for a bit alright? here is a sack of carrots to bring with you"

"A run? Is there a lead or what?"
Darien looked around for some kind of rope or leash.

Kiara nodded and waved hand conjuring a pair of rains on Obsidian's head.

"Doesn't need to be a run per say, but I don't think he will mind the freedom of the stable yard"

"Okay...So i just drag him along with the rein thingies?"
It was clear that Darien had never riden or been near a horse or unicorn before.

Kiara smirked "More likely he will be dragging you Mr Vaight, just run beside him... even to talk to him you never know you might learn something"

"Fine." Darien grunted, grabbing the reins in one hand. He pulled on them, leading the unicorn towards the stable yard.
After a few moments of silence, he sighed and put his other hand on the horn, bracing himself for the strange communication-via-a-horn.
"Alright Obsidien...What is going on? And why am I assigned to you? And why do you talk through your horn?!"

Obsidian may have laughed if he could.

"How should I know? and I talk to you through my horn because I can... Way are you talking to me?"

"Because I want answers...and I'm bored quite frankly."
Darien glanced around the empty yard. "Oh merlin, I sound like I'm talking to myself."
He looked sideways at the unicorn. "Well? Are you going to run or what?"
