Parent Trap Part 2

A look of almost-empathy crossed Ana's features. "And we are the vampire-failures. At least you can blame it on inheritance."

"Yeah..." Adriana said. "Talk about caught between two worlds."

"And you decided to swap...I guess that's inventive. How is it going Adelina?"

Adelina's face in the mirror smiled. "Could be worse."

"Good. Don't get stabbed or anything." Ana paused again, glancing at Adriana. "By the way...How is...Nick?"

"Paranoid as usual." Adriana answered. Then became suspicious. "Why?"

Ana shrugged. "Just wondered. Have fun."

She slipped out onto the landing, and began to shut the door behind her.

"Wait a minute, how do you know his name?" Adriana said quickly.

"Whose name?" Ana's tone was airy, but she remained on the other side of the door.

"Don't play coy with me, I doubt Vampires know Slayers by name." Adriana said.

"That's what most of us want you to think." Ana replied emotionlessly. "Vampires like to name their targets every now and again."

"Target?" Adriana said suddenly alarmed. "Wait, so he's a target?"

Ana sighed. "No, no no. I'm merely pointing out that vampires do know the names of important slayers. That's all."

"And you didn't know me?" Adriana said curiously. "I'm not quite a Slayer but.. Nick's my cousin..."

Ana said nothing for a moment. "Well, I am not privy to the inner family workings of slayers. I merely had occasion to know his name at one time."

"And pray tell, what was this occasion in which you speak of?" Adriana asked suspiciously.

Ana said nothing, but didn't move away from the door either.

"Yeah, what was it?" Adelina repeated, intrigued, from the mirror.

Ana sighed. "I believe I already mentioned it."

"No you didn't" Adriana corrected. "Come on, Ana what was it?"

Ana reentered the room and shut the door. "Why should I tell you? He clearly hasn't."

"Well its not like we share everything with each other. Besides, currently, he's been rather dejected." Adriana explained.

"It's not my place to say." Ana paused. "Dejected?"

Adriana shrugged. "Yeah, it's a bit odd actually."

"...How so?" Ana couldn't help being curious...even though she felt she shouldn't be. After all, she had tried to kill him, been unable to, been kicked out of her family and taken to living with Calista like a hermit.

She wondered...what her life could have been like if she had killed him. Or at least if she was still at home.

"I don't know, he just seems different lately." Adriana said. "Why do you care..?"

Ana shrugged. "I was merely intrigued. Force of habit I suppose."

"Force of habit?" Adriana asked.

Ana rolled her eyes. "I was a vampire. I was trained to exploit slayer weaknesses. So I was trained to investigate them. A habit."
