Defense Office

Headmistress Kiara walked into one of her DADA office. She didn't change anything about it, This wouldn't be her office forever, or would it. She always liked defense, she could ramble on for hours about it. If she hadn't been offered the headmistress position she would gladly taken this one.

Sitting down behind the desk she sighed as she looked at the only book on the desk. Every teacher who ever took the position had there name written in the book.

There were a heck of a lot of them to, the defense position held the record for most teachers since the position was opened.

Rumor had it that Voldemort has cursed to position so it couldn't hold a professor for more the one term.

Ana glanced down once more at the letter in her hand. It was quite long, written in a scruffy hand, on thick old-fashioned parchment and sealed with a serpant crest. Of course she'd known who'd written it before even breaking the seal. Darien.
That was unusual in itself. Darien barely ever wrote to her.
This was different. What did he mean?
Ana raised a hand and knocked smartly on the office door.
It suddenly struck her that going to the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher might not be the best idea.
But it was too late now.

Hearing the knock on her door Kiara raised her head from the book.

"Come on in the door is opened" she said as she flicked her wand opening the door.

The door swung inwards, and Ana stepped into the study.
The letter was still folded, held in one fist.
"Sorry to disturb you Professor, but..." Ana pushed the letter into a pocket in her robes, careful to appear casual. "I have a question...It's not really about Defense, but I just wondered... What are..." Ana wondered how to pronounce the unfamiliar word. "Horcruxes?"

Kiara felt her heart skip a beat and all colour leave her face at the question.

"Horcruxes? Where in Merlin's name did you here that word?" she asked as she flicked her wand closing and locking the door behind Miss Vaight.

Ana stiffened as the Headmistress locked the door.
Darien...
Ana cursed her stupidity. Now she'd have to explain the whole story. Great. Just what Ana hated doing the most.
She reached into her pocket and pulled out the letter.
"In a letter..." Ana bit her lip but knew she would have to explain her brother. "It's from my brother. He mentions them several times...I just wondered what they were...And why a third year would be being taught how to make one."

If it were possible kiara's eyes widened even more, and her heart beat quickened.

"Your brother? I must see the letter he wrote to you Miss Vaight. It is very important that no one should make one ever again....you are right Horcruxes have nothing to do with defense, but everything to do with dark arts. For anyone to even think about making one is....unthinkable"

Ana noticed the Headmistress' expression and felt a twinge of guilt. Had she betrayed her brother? She glanced down at the letter in her hand, and the insulting comments. The guilt disappeared. He would have done the same. It was what they were meant to do.
But she still felt a need to try and slightly lessen his doom.
"Here it is Professor...But I... I know this will sound pretty stupid, but I don't think he knows what they are, either. Usually whenever he knows anything, he'll explain and gloat. But he just avoids the issue...I'm not sure he knows what he's doing."
Ana passed the letter across the desk to the Headmistress.

It read;
"Ana,
Father is starting to fear we don't "correspond" enough, so has asked me to waste some of
my valuable time talking to you, when I could be out increasing my general status in the
school. So don't expect essays.
Hmm...What do I say? Some rubbish about school I suppose, as you doubtless want to know what
those with talent learn at a decent school. Well, you shan't have heard of these Horcruxes
our new professor is going to help us make. Of course, I won't waste time explaining them to
you,I know you won't understand and this ink was expensive. (It glows in the dark, you'll
notice if you've anywhere near normal intelligence...) So, when we all make our horcruxes
and become, to most intents and purposes, invincible, I might drop in and visit you... If I
have time. Then father and moher will just have to accept that grades are not everything.
So will you.
Have fun with whatever magic tricks you're learning in your beginner classes.
Darien."

Kiara quickly read through the letter, she couldn't believe what she was reading. The boy made it sound as if he was working on a school project.

"That is probably what he thinks it is" thought Kiara as she got up an quickly went to her desk and took out a peice of paper adressing it to the ministry.

Looking over at Miss Vaight once again she waved her wand cunjuring a chair.

"Take a seat Miss Vaight I need to ask you a few questions. Now how old is your brother and what school does he go to...don't worry i believe you that he doesn't know what one is. But who ever is telling your bother about them must be stopped"

Great. Now the ministry would get involved. Her father was going to be livid.
If he was at home or even contactable.
But Darien would be absolutely furious. And he was older and more experienced than her. Maybe she'd stay at school for the holidays...
Ana quickly worked out Darien's age. He must be fourteen now.
"He's fourteen Professor, he's at...Well, at Durmstrang..."
Thank god he wasn't at Hogwarts. That would have been hell.

Kiara stopped writing in shock.

"14? They're telling 4th years how to make these? That is..... there isn't even a word for it."

Looking Ana Vaight.directly in the eye.

"Miss Vaight it is critical you know how serious this is. People die in the making of Horcruxes, should your brother attempt to make one he could be in very very deep trouble. If there is anything else your brother has told you now would be the time to tell me"

Ana could barely recall the last time she'd seen her brother.
She shook her head. "Sorry Professor, we don't see much of each other. Even less now I've come to Hogwarts. He goes away camping and to clubs most of the holidays and we don't really talk. I haven't seen him since..."
She did a quick mental calculation.
"I don't think I've seen him since the start of the summer holidays last September. He only came home for a day, to drop off his trunk after his term ended."

Kiara nodded writing all the information she could find in the letter and what Miss Vaight had told her.

When she was finished she took out her wand cast all sorts of privacy spells over the letter. Then sticking two fingers in her mouth she whistled.

An instant later Saturn her phoenix was at her side.

"Saturn I need you to take this to Harry Potter head of the Auror department make sure he reads it. Thanks"

Then in a flash of blue light Saturn was gone.

Ana needed to leave. Her parents would doubtless want an explanation when Darien told them.
"If that's all Professor, I'd better go..."

Kiara regarded her for a moment,

"very well, but I must ask you not to tell any of your classmates about what you have heard tonight. Is that understood Miss Vaight?."

Ana nodded. "Yes Professor."
She left the study and headed out into the grounds.

"Now Miss Granger why don't you tell me what that letter was all about, there is no Tom Riddle here" said Kiara that wasn't a lie exactly for the boy in the castle now was no longer Tom Riddle.

"Really Headmistress? I don't know how or why but Voldemort aka Tom Riddle has been turned back in to a child. The ministry will take him in as the ward of the state.."

Kiara raised her hand, "Stop right there Miss Granger, so I will save your breath and me my time, there is no Tom Riddle in this castle, Hasn't been in nearly 80 years"

Hermione look fustrated.

"But we recieved confirmation that he was here"

Kiara shruggle. "Perhaps the new informing system is fualty, My transfiguration Professor recentlly came in to custody of her son Edwin . Perhaps that is who your spells picked up.

Hermione looked at her in annoyence.

"The ministry informational system isn't broken Headmistress, and we know he is here, it is my duty to bring him back to the ministry where we can make sure history doesn't repeat it's self"

Kiara bit her lip, starting to feel quite angry, there were many things she would have liked to say at that moment, but she held her tounge.

"Fine since you seem to be ignoring what ever I say I will not waste my breath, which I am rather short on at the moment. Search the castle if you wish Miss Granger but you will not leave this school with any child claiming he is Tom Riddle without solid, without a reason of a doubt proof that it is actually him" Kiara said

Hoping beyond hope that whatever Eglantine and Viper were doing they had already done so.

Hermione turned in a humf intending on leaving the office. She stopped at the door.

"If we do find him I can have you arrested for hidding him"

Kiara glared at Hermione. "Just try it Miss Granger. Most of the Auror's you brought with you today served under me at some point in time"

Viper entered the room with an air of confidence and a slight smirk/haughty look on her face. She eyed Hermione with glee. "Bloody hell, You got fat!" she said dissolving in a fit of giggles.

Kiara slapped her hand over her face, to make it look like disapproved. When she was really covering her laugh.

The look on Hermione's face was priceless.

Her face had gone all red and she was shooting daggers at viper.

"Miss Viper I should have known you would be involved in this"

Viper raised an eyebrow. "Whatever do you mean, Ms.Granger?" she asked innocently. "I'm merely trying to recover and pick up the pieces. After all, you did annihilate my career!"

She turned to the other room's occupants. "See how she attacks me?" she said shaking her head disapprovingly, trying to supress a smile.

Eglantine cautiously entered the room, carrying Edwin, who had been unable to walk so far. After all he was only two years old. To anyone, she appeared calm and collected, despite her shaking hands, which were becoming, sadly, her trademark.

"Mrs. Weasley." she greeted.

Hermione looked over at the child in Eglantines arms.

"Who's child is that?" she asked.

Viper raised an eyebrow. "Hello Professor Delanquar. How are you on this glorious day?" she asked dryly, scoffing. "Your manners are most becoming, Whor-Hermione."

"My son, Edwin." Eglantine answered, ignoring the woman's complete lack of manners.
